Can peptides help burning, tingling, or nerve pain?
Sometimes—but the details are everything. Ziconotide is an FDA-approved peptide medicine for selected cases of severe chronic pain. Cibinetide, also called ARA-290, has shown early nerve-repair signals in small trials but remains investigational.
Make sure the pain pattern fits
Burning, electric shocks, pins and needles, numbness, or pain from light touch can point toward nerve involvement. Diabetes, shingles, spinal disease, medication effects, vitamin deficiencies, autoimmune disease, and other problems can produce similar symptoms. A product cannot replace finding the cause.
Ziconotide: established, but highly specialized
Ziconotide is a synthetic version of a cone-snail peptide. Controlled trials found pain relief in people with severe chronic pain that had not responded to conventional care. It is delivered into spinal fluid through an implanted system—not injected at home—and its FDA label carries a boxed warning for severe psychiatric and neurological effects.
This is proof that peptide pain medicines can work. It is not proof that every peptide sold online works.
Cibinetide / ARA-290: an early repair hypothesis
ARA-290 is designed from part of erythropoietin and is intended to activate tissue-protective pathways without stimulating red blood cells. Small trials in diabetes- and sarcoidosis-associated small-fiber neuropathy reported changes in symptoms or nerve-fiber measures.
The limitation is decisive: these studies were small, short, and narrow. In a 64-person phase 2b study, nerve-fiber measures improved at one dose, but the placebo-corrected pain result in the moderate-to-severe subgroup was not statistically significant. That is a research signal, not an established treatment.
Our verdict: Nerve pain is one of the clearest examples of why “peptides work” and “this peptide works for me” are different claims. Ziconotide has an approved role. ARA-290 is scientifically interesting. Neither justifies buying an unidentified product or skipping a neurological workup.
